Birmingham City Ladies Swoop Monster FA Cup Final Win!

On Saturday 26th May 2012 at Bristol City’s FC’s Ashton Gate, the Birmingham City girls beat Chelsea to lift the highly prestigious FA Women’s Cup in a dramatic penalty shootout resulting in a spectacular win of 3-2. This is their first major piece of silverware in 44 years.

The game was played end to end under 30 degrees of heat with Chelsea eventually breaking the deadlock with Helen Lander’s goal. The Blues Ladies fought back with a late Rachel Williams goal in the 1

st minute of second half injury time. After the restart and into the first period of extra-time Chelsea took the lead once more through a strike from Kate Longhurst in the 11thminute of extra time. However, Blues Ladies’ hunger for a win was not to be left there; Karen Carney scored with a quickly taken free-kick in the 22ndminute of extra time to put both teams on par and leading to the penalty shootout. It seems the penalty practices put in by the BCLFC girls really paid off. The girls had practiced their penalties under conditions of screaming and booing “fans” as well as a dragon all in an effort to get focused. However all in all it came down to the deserving team – BCLFC.

Tim Andrews, Managing Director of Hollywood Monster said: “It was a proud and rewarding moment to see the girls lift the trophy, it shows the passion of the girls and the dedication of all those involved, HM are extremely proud to be the sponsors of an outstanding team!”

So what does this mean for the girls now…well after the initial partying they will be on a high for their next game when they meet Chelsea again on Thursday 31st May 2012, at Stratford Football Club. This time if anyone wanting to attend can do so for FREE!

Once again a very well done Girls!!
