Monster support for Birmingham City Ladies’ cup stars

Birmingham City Ladies football stars are getting monster support as they prepare for one of the biggest games in their history.

The team – including six England internationals and eight from the GB Olympics squad – will meet Chelsea Ladies in the final of the Women’s FA Cup on Saturday (May 26) at Ashton Gate, Bristol.

In what could be a momentous season for the team, they are also in second place behind Arsenal in the FA Women’s Super League (FAWSL).

When they run out on to the pitch on Saturday they will be joined by the mascot of signs and graphics giant Hollywood Monster – the Birmingham-based company that sponsors the team’s shirts. They will be cheered on by managing director Tim Andrews, and a large party from Hollywood Monster, as they battle to beat Chelsea and lift the cup.

Hollywood Monster has sponsored Birmingham City FC for 20 years and jumped at the chance to extend its sponsorship of the women’s team shirts for another year.

Tim Andrews said: “We’re huge supporters of Blues Ladies and we’ve really enjoyed following them. They’ve got a fantastic squad and it would be great to see them win the FA Cup and go on to win the league title. Many of the players will also be representing Great Britain at the Olympics too, so it could be a really momentous year in the history of the club.”

He added: “Our company mascot will be joining them at training on Friday and then on the pitch before the final begins, so they’ll all know that Hollywood Monster and all their fans are right behind them.”

Blues Ladies star Karen Carney said: “We’re really excited at reaching the Women’s FA Cup final and determined to bring the trophy back to Birmingham. It’s already proving to be a fantastic season for the club and players and we are thrilled at all the support we’ve had. Tim and everyone at Hollywood Monster have always been right behind us and it’s support like that which is driving us on to achieve great things.”

The FAWSL aims to be family friendly and fans will be able to interact with their favourite players both at matches and online. Fans can visit facebook.com/FAWSL or www.fawsl.com throughout the season to have a say in their league and clubs, and to access exciting behind the scenes news and videos from players. The FA is investing a total of £3million over two years in the FAWSL.
