New Signs in Birmingham

When dusk falls on the Birmingham skyline, many Hollywood Monster illuminated signs take over the landscape.

The latest addition to the Monster list, joining the iconic list such as The Mailbox, the new Birmingham Library, The ICC, plus many others, are the new signs at Birmingham Metropolitan College in Jennens Road, Birmingham.

Previously known as Matthew Boulton College, the Met college had their high level signs changed last week by Hollywood Monster to reveal their new identity.

Working at heights more accustomed by the likes of King Kong, and even our mascot, of around 100 feet, and using a 45 metre lorry mounted access platform, Hollywood Monster replaced the original signs originally installed by the company in 2005 when the building was first constructed.

Matthew Boulton Campus won the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Further Education Design Excellence Awards 2008 for the Birmingham City Centre based campus. The impressive new building has many outstanding features, with remarkably well equipped learning suites and professional standard facilities. Specialist workshops, laboratories, studios and study centres are zoned to provide an inspirational learning environment for further and higher education to Birmingham’s future talent.

Each letter, installed one at a time are manufactured from stainless steel, finished to a high quality brushed effect with low energy consuming LED lights installed internally to illuminate the face of the letters at night, fastened to a structurally designed and engineered supporting frame. White lenses were installed in the new built up letters replacing the previous ‘red’ lenses in the previous letters of MBC to really punch out from and literally above the crowd.

The signs can be seen from many busy roads and railways in and out of Birmingham
