Walk The Albion Way – Press Release

7th January 2014

The Albion Foundation is celebrating a win, after securing a team of sponsors to support the five blind footballers walking 86 miles for the charity this month.

With three weeks to go until Walk The Albion Way begins, six companies have pledged to support the players, as they take on the difficult task of walking from Anfield to the Hawthorns in five days.

Signage and graphics company Hollywood Monster, Bache Pallets Limited, Free Radio and the West Bromwich branch of Primark have all confirmed their support for the challenge, with hotelshopUK also donating accommodation for the trip and South & City College Birmingham set to film the venture.

Tim Andrews, Hollywood Monster MD, said: “I was introduced to The Albion Foundation a few months ago and I was completely blown away by the work they do in the West Midlands.

“After meeting the guys taking part in the walk, we feel honoured to support them and the challenge.”

Challenge organiser, Jon Ross, from The Albion Foundation, said: “We are overwhelmed by the support shown to us by these great local businesses and we want to thank them for encouragement.”

With the support of their guides, the B1 Blind Team players will walk from Anfield Stadium, Liverpool, to The Hawthorns, West Bromwich, from 27th January 2014, with the aim of raising £10,000 to help the charity continue to support them and the other ten disability teams within The Albion Foundation.

For 21 years, the charity has provided children, young people and adults with physical and learning disabilities with training, coaches, kit, transport, venues, accommodation and more, so that they have the chance to play competitive sport. Through schooling, sport and education, The Albion Foundation support more than 520 disabled people every week, with the aim of raising aspirations and helping everyone they work with to achieve lifelong goals.
